Church's ban from Plaza Ferdinand nears end

Pensacola News Journal:  "A local church group likely will be allowed to have picnics again and feed the homeless at Plaza Ferdinand, where the City of Pensacola ordered the church to stop gathering earlier this year.

Alliance Defense Fund attorneys have reached a settlement with the city on behalf of St. Faustina Old Catholic Church.
The agreement allows groups of fewer than 30 — as is typically the case at the church's picnics — to use the park whenever they want without getting a permit.

The settlement is contingent on the City Council giving final approval Aug. 13 to a new Plaza Ferdinand ordinance and to changes to the city's special events permit ordinance, said Susan Woolf, assistant city attorney. The council last week approved the first reading of the ordinances.
