Oklahoma governor signs bill that keeps kids first

The following quote may be attributed to Alliance Defending Freedom Legal Counsel Kellie Fiedorek regarding Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin’s decision to sign legislation Friday that protects all adoption and foster care providers. The new law ensures that valuable providers remain available to serve children in the foster care system without fear of government discrimination:

“Every single child deserves the chance to be raised in a loving family, and faith-based child welfare providers are vital to helping make this happen. They are often the most effective at placing vulnerable and special needs children. No provider should be prevented from serving children and families because the government may not like their religious beliefs—beliefs that often inspire their concern for those in need. When the government instead respects a diversity of opinions and providers as this new law does, everyone—especially children, their birth parents, and their adoptive families—will benefit. Gov. Fallin and the Oklahoma Legislature should be commended for prioritizing the needs of children who are looking for loving, forever homes.”
