International religious freedom bill goes to president’s desk

The following quote may be attributed to ADF International Deputy Director Paul Coleman regarding the U.S. House of Representatives’ passage Tuesday of the Frank R. Wolf International Religious Freedom Act (H.R. 1150), sponsored by Reps. Chris Smith, R-N.J., and Anna Eshoo, D-Calif.:

“Those who are suffering around the world simply for holding to a certain faith shouldn’t be forgotten, and those responsible for that persecution should be made to face appropriate consequences for their acts. This incredibly vital bill—which builds upon the tireless efforts of Rep. Frank Wolf to treat this type of global suffering as an important U.S. foreign policy matter—demonstrates that the U.S. is serious about the importance of religious freedom both for those who are suffering and for all those who love freedom in general.”

The bill expands the original International Religious Freedom Act, enacted into law in 1998. Wolf, whom ADF awarded its Edwin Meese Award in 2012, was the sponsor of that bill.
