Colo. cake artist considering appeal of Civil Rights Commission decision

Friday, May 30, 2014
The following quote may be attributed to Alliance Defending Freedom allied attorney Nicolle Martin regarding the commission’s decision Friday in Craig v. Masterpiece Cakeshop to uphold an administrative law judge’s ruling that a Colorado cake artist must artistically design cakes for same-sex ceremonies and then prove that he has complied with the coerced-speech order:

“In America, we don’t separate a person’s creative expression from what he believes. Jack simply exercised the long-cherished American freedom to decline to use his artistic and creative talents to promote a message with which he disagrees. Because the government should not force him to choose between his faith and his livelihood, we are considering an appeal to the Colorado Court of Appeals.”

Alliance Defending Freedom is an alliance-building, non-profit legal organization that advocates for the right of people to freely live out their faith.
