ADF: Texas on solid ground to protect children from unproven, risky drug treatments

Thursday, Feb 1, 2024

The following quote may be attributed to Alliance Defending Freedom Senior Counsel and Vice President of Appellate Advocacy John Bursch regarding a friend-of-the-court brief ADF filed with the Texas Supreme Court in State of Texas v. Loe, in which the state of Texas is defending its law that protects children from unproven drug treatments that risk permanent harm:

“Texas rightly enacted the Minors Protection Act to protect the health and welfare of all children—no matter how they identify. Injecting children with puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones to treat gender dysphoria is unsafe. Systematic, international reviews have shown insufficient evidence to support such use. Many studies even suggest these interventions are dangerous. This has led many European nations and American states to forbid puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones for children with gender dysphoria. As we explain in our brief, ADF believes such caution is best, given the uncertain science, serious harm, and inability of minors to give informed consent, and we are urging the Texas Supreme Court to allow the state to continue protecting its children.”
